Representative Payee Services

The Need:
According to the Social Security Administration, more than seven million people receiving monthly Social Security and/or Supplemental Security Income are needing assistance with financial management.

After careful review and approval, the Social Security Administration (SSA) can appoint nonprofit organizations to serve as a Representative Payee for individuals and/or families who need assistance managing their finances. Heartland Embrace, Inc. is one such organization, which has been appointed to serve beneficiaries within the state of Wisconsin.

Organizational Representative Payees

Organizational Representative Payee Services are those services authorized and governed by the United States Social Security Administration (SSA), including the management of Social Security and/or SSI benefits. The main responsibilities of a representative payee are: (1) to use the benefits to pay for the current and foreseeable needs of a beneficiary; (2) properly save any benefits not needed to meet current needs; and (3) keep records and provide an accounting of the use of benefits and savings upon request of the SSA.
